It’s that time of year already! We don’t usually do Easter baskets, but I do like to do Easter Egg hunts for the girls. I don’t mind doing a little candy (chocolate for mom is always good!), but I like to throw some non-candy items in the Easter eggs, too. Also, if you have more than one child, a color coded Easter Egg hunt makes it easy to put age-appropriate items in each plastic egg.
I’ve used a few of these ideas during Egg hunts in the past, but I’ve thought of a few more things besides candy to add, too. Here is a list of 35+ items you can put into plastic eggs.
Things to Put in Easter Eggs (Instead of Candy)
- Puzzle Pieces – This is a fun “Puzzle Hunt” if you have a smaller puzzle and the kids can put it together after collecting all the eggs

- LEGO pieces (maybe a set to build a small toy like these?)

- Hair ties
- Barrettes
- Mini toy cars
- Small action figures
- Play-Doh (here’s a recipe for homemade playdough)

- Fun Shoe laces
- Glow-in-the-Dark Stars
- Slips of paper with exercises – 10 pushups, 10 jumping jacks, etc. (hey, a little movement is always good, right?)
